Southern Railway ‘Bulleid’ carriage No. S1469S - built 1950
January 2007 saw the carriage lifted to allow the Keighley end bogie to be removed for a complete overhaul. The Oxenhope end bogie has already been fully overhauled and is back in position under the carriage. All the cladding panels are now in position, and all of the window glass has been fitted.

First Class Metropolitan Carriage No. 509 - built 1923

Following our bogie overhauls for GNR 2856, we realised how much there was a need for this sort of work on our other carriages. The First Class Met. was the first in line for this work, which included a major clean, inspection and painting of the underframe as well as the bogies themselves. After a great deal of hard work, notably by our two part-time employees John Heaton and Chris Smith, this work has now been completed and this carriage is again available for use on the Worth Valley Railway and elsewhere, whether for filming or for passenger service.
Refurbishment of the two bogies included turning all four wheelsets. This wheel turning was done at Bury Loco Works - and certainly was necessary! We originally decided not to have the bogie springs remade (which was very necessary when we did the similar exercise on GNR 2856). We have now reversed this decision, as we needed to wind the spring hanger adjusting nuts almost to their limit to achieve the correct buffer height. The carriage is currently on display in the museum.
