History - Key Stage 1: Point 3
Representation and interpretation of the past through the history of railway travel and especially ordinary passenger travel.
Development of rail travel and its importance in different historical contexts.

Key Stage 2: Point 11
a): Victorian Britain:
A study of the impact of significant individuals, events and changes in work and transport on the lives of men, women and children from different sections of society.

Examples for the above:
Impact of significance individuals and events: Robert Stephenson, Isambard Kingdom Brunel and their impact on travel in Britain, and on the wider world:
Impact of changes to work and transport:
The impact of the railway on the local area.

b): Britain since 1930 - including the Second World War: dangers and evacuation:
A study of the impact of the Second World War and of social and technological changes that have taken place since 1930 on the lives of men, women and children from different sections of society.

Examples for the above:
Impact of the Second World War - the Blitz and evacuation.
(Vintage Carriages Trust's three Metropolitan Railway carriages were part of a fleet much used in the London from the 1920s, and particularly in the Second World War. They facilitate a study of aspects of the war years - the wartime risks of train travel, the evacuation of children from London to the relative safety of the country).

Other possible uses of the Trust's Collection:

Poster Art - using the Trust's collection of railway posters dating from the 1920s to the present day and showing a wide range of poster-art styles.
Steam locomotives - their components and their workings.
